How to Pitch Your First Client on WhatsApp and Email
Updated: 2026-08-15 | Reading time: 6 min
Most students can build something useful long before they can ask anyone to pay for it. This is the part of the course that students dread and that changes the most.
The rule that fixes most bad messages
Lead with their problem, not your skills. Nobody outside your family cares which language you learned. They care that their customers cannot find their prices.
Read those two openings and you will never write the first one again:
- ❌ "Assalam-o-Alaikum sir, I am a student learning Python and web development. I can make websites at cheap rates. Please give me a chance."
- ✅ "Assalam-o-Alaikum. I passed your shop in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and looked for your prices online — I could only find your Facebook page. I build simple one-page sites that show prices and a contact button. Would it help if I showed you what that could look like for your shop?"
A WhatsApp template for local businesses
Assalam-o-Alaikum [name of shop].
I'm [your name], a student from [area]. I noticed [one specific,
true observation — no online menu, no booking, prices only on
Facebook].
I make simple [thing] for small businesses here. I've made one for
[example or practice project] — here it is: [link].
If you like, I can make a sample for your shop first, free, and you
only pay if you want to keep it.
[Your name]
Keep it under 120 words. Send it during business hours. Send it once, and follow up once after a week — never more.
A cold email template for international clients
Email is slower and more formal, and the subject line does most of the work. "Quick idea for [company]'s booking page" beats "Web Development Services".
Subject: Quick idea for [company]'s [specific page]
Hi [name],
I was looking at [specific page] and noticed [specific, concrete
observation].
I build small [tools/pages] that fix exactly this. Here is one I
made: [link].
If it's useful I can put together a version for you this week — happy
to show you first and let you decide after.
Best,
[Your name], [city]
Etiquette that keeps your name clean
- Never send the same message to twenty businesses at once. It shows, and it is how you become the person nobody replies to.
- Do not claim experience you do not have. "I'm a student, here is what I've built" is a stronger position than a lie that collapses in the first meeting.
- Agree what you are delivering, and by when, in writing — even a WhatsApp message counts.
- If you cannot finish, say so early. Reputation in a small city travels fast in both directions.
Safety rules for students under 18
These are not optional in our batches:
- A parent or guardian sees the message list before the first outreach round, and knows who you are talking to.
- Meetings with a new local client happen in a public place or at the academy, with an adult present.
- Never share your home address, your school timetable, or your CNIC.
- Payments go to a parent's account, not a student's, until they are 18.
- Anything that feels wrong — pressure, unusual requests, refusal to speak to a parent — is reported, and the student is never blamed for bringing it up.
How to handle money the first time
Take part of the payment before you start — half is normal and protects both sides. Write down what is included and what is not. And when someone asks your price, say the number and then stop talking; the pause is uncomfortable and it is doing the work.
